Parishes of Jersey have qualified for the Sportsbet.io Conifa (Confederation of Independent Football Associations) World Football Cup 2020 finals to be held in Skopje, North Macedonia between 30th May and 7th June.
The 16 team tournament includes sides from Africa, Asia, North America, Oceania, South America, as well as other European based teams, and Parishes of Jersey are one of only three UK based teams to qualify.
Parishes have confirmed their intention to take up their finals place to Conifa thanks to a significant new two year sponsorship deal with IQ-EQ.
Manager James Scott said “I’m thrilled that we have qualified for the World Cup finals and am excited to take the team to North Macedonia this summer. There are some really strong sides in the finals, and this is a fantastic opportunity for our best players to compete in a prestigious tournament against high quality new opposition.”
Parishes of Jersey President, James Blower, commented “James and the team have done a wonderful job in winning one of the European qualification spots and we are looking forward to the finals. The 2018 final was watched by over 3,500 people and the interest in Conifa has grown considerably since then. I’m extremely grateful to IQ-EQ for their sponsorship, which without, this would not be possible.”
Ben Newman, the Managing Director for IQ-EQ Jersey added “Having already been the team’s main kit sponsor for their impressive debut in the CONIFA Heritage Cup tournament earlier this year, we are delighted to be their headline sponsor for the next two years. IQ-EQ is proud to have a strong presence in Jersey, so we very much look forward to increasing our support for Parishes of Jersey FC and cheering them on from the side lines!”
Parishes will warm up for the finals by participating in the Southern Frontier Cup in Surrey on 23rd and 24th May where they will compete against fellow World Cup finalists Cascadia as well as Yorkshire International Football Association and hosts International Surrey Football.
